These advantages make it possible to cut out excess costs and offer you a more affordable tour packed with value. In addition to the main highlights, you will access “hidden gems” that may be off the main tourist circuit and often missed by bigger tour companies.
By offering a balance of structure and flexibility on the tour, you will be able to have time to explore on your own within the group travel setting. Our trip hosts are friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and will assist you in any way needed while on the trip.
Hello! My name is Erik Rasmussen, owner of Erik’s Adventures and race director for the Inca Trail Marathon to Machu Picchu. I have always considered myself an active and adventurous person with a love of travel, endurance sports, and the outdoors. Never seeming to have enough time to pursue my wide range of interests to their fullest, I finally decided in 2003 to personally organize and take an adventure trip around the world. Traveling for over a year, I visited magical places like the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru and climbed the summit of Kilimanjaro. Of course, these examples are only highlights, the places that I remember with the most fondness and clarity.
Hi! I wanted to share a little more information about myself with you. I am originally from Chicago, IL. I grew up there and also in a small town in Wisconsin as the oldest of 5 kids in my family. I currently call Wilmington, North Carolina my home when I am not traveling or hosting the Official 26.2 mile Inca Trail Marathon. I have visited and worked in over 50 countries around the world and spend on average about 3 to 4 months a year abroad.

I’m thrilled to be a part of Erik’s Adventures, part of the Inca Trail Marathon to Machu Picchu, and am particularly excited to travel with you to South America! Being half Peruvian, the Latin American culture and Spanish language have always been very prevalent in my household. It is a culture I believe to be full of vibrancy, delicious cuisine, with a history engrossed in deep ritual and mystery. With much of my family still residing in Peru, I am proud to call it my home away from home and it is with much enthusiasm as co-race director of the Inca Trail marathon that I share with you its beauty and richness.
